Tottenham Hotspurs continues to show poor form in Europe. They were defeated tonight in Lisbon by Sporting with a score of 1-0. Paulinho (90′) and Gomes (90+3′) scored for the locals to give Antonio Conte’s team a cold blow.
Sporting Lisbon continues with victory in the Champions League.
After beating Eintracht Frankfurt 3-0 in the first leg, they beat Tottenham 2-0 in Lisbon.
The first half was a game without many noteworthy chances apart from a goal disallowed in the 43rd minute by Tottenham’s Richarlison for offside.
Tottenham’s Emerson Royal (49′) had the best chance to score early in the first half but Adan made an amazing save to deny him.
Until the 90th minute, both teams did not have good chances to score.
But, precisely in the last minutes, the Portuguese became active and scored two goals.
First, Tottenham’s Hugo Lloris made an amazing save from Pedro Porro’s shot to deny him a goal, but it wasn’t long before Gonzalez’s perfect header from Sporting’s corner kick would see Paulinho score a fine goal.
Three minutes later, Sporting scored the second goal.
Arthur Gomez made an amazing run in the area to score in the 3rd minute of extra time of this match.
After this victory, Sporting has 6 points from two matches played and is well on its way to qualify for the 1/8 finals of the Champions League.
Tottenham remains in second place with only three points collected.
In the next matches, Sporting will play against Marseille and Tottenham against the Europa League champion, Eintracht Frankfurt.
