The only one who qualified for the round of 16 was Real Madrid.
Since the reformation with 4 participating teams of a country in the Champions League started, respectively from the 1999/2000 season, it had never happened that Spain had only one team among the 16 best in the elimination phase.
Without a doubt, this was a season to forget for the Spanish teams, which will be more represented in the Europa League.
