Jurgen Klopp has compared Liverpool’s poor start to the season with Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
The Reds drew 3-3 with Brighton in their last Premier League game, as the Merseyside side’s defense continues to be criticized.
Liverpool are ninth in the table with 10 points from their first seven games – 11 behind league leaders Arsenal, who they face at the weekend.
Before facing the Gunners, Liverpool will face Rangers on Tuesday in their third match in the Champions League. And Klopp addressed the media on Monday afternoon ahead of this game.
When asked about the current lack of confidence in his team, the German insisted that all teams and players go through these moments, including Messi and Ronaldo, who together have won 12 Ballons d’Or.
“Do you think Cristiano Ronaldo is at the peak of his confidence level at this moment? And for many years he was the best player in the world and now it’s not going well in his direction,” Klopp replied.
“It happens to all of us. Lionel Messi played last season and it was almost the same. These things happen to all of us. You have to take a step in the right direction and when you’re ready, it comes back. We have to be patient again to do the right thing and then we will be fine again. We must definitely be more solid and compact,” added Klopp.
