Lionel Messi has confirmed that this year’s World Cup will be his last.
The Argentinian star recently gave an interview to the journalist, Sebastian Vignolo, where, among other things, he talked about the World Championship Qatar “2022”, which will be the last in his career.
“This will be my last World Cup. The decision has been made,” said Messi.
“I am counting the days until the World Cup. The truth is, there’s a bit of anxiety, saying, ‘Well, we’re here, what’s going to happen? It’s the last one, how will it go?’ On the one hand, I can’t wait for it to start,” added the seven-time Golden Ball winner.
“We are in a very good moment, with a very strong group, but anything can happen in a World Cup. All the games are difficult, that’s what makes the World Cup so special, because the favorites are not always the ones who end up winning,” continued the Paris Saint-Germain striker.
“I don’t know if we can be considered as the main contenders. “However, Argentina is historically a contender to win, but now we are not the favorites, there are teams that have better chances”, declared the 35-year-old.
We remind you that the “Qatar 2022” World Championship will take place from November 20 to December 18.
Argentina has been drawn in Group C, along with Poland, Mexico and Saudi Arabia.
