Spain are preparing for their Nations League matches this week against Switzerland and Portugal, but the main topic around the national team remains the names Luis Enrique has decided to leave out rather than the ones he has brought in.
One of the footballers who was not invited by the Spanish selector is Sergio Ramos.
The former Real Madrid captain is said to be extremely disappointed not to receive a call from La Roja, according to Mundo Deportivo.
Ramos has struggled with numerous injuries over the past 18 months but appears to be back in good form at Paris Saint-Germain.
The Spaniard has featured in each of their 11 games so far this season – coming on in one, starting the other ten and completing 90 minutes in eight of them. The quality of his performances has led PSG to consider a contract renewal for Ramos, whose contract expires next summer.
However, the 36-year-old is said to still hope that he can be invited by Spain for the Qatar 2022 World Cup.
Luis Enrique did not rule that out during his press conference on Friday, saying the door is always open.
